Giving

I am acutely aware of consumerism and the nature of gift giving this Christmas. Thank god my shopping addiction has long passed. There are some great ideas at "oxfam unwrapped" online for gifts that don't clutter your rich relatives oversized houses. This year they are giving chickens to villagers in laos! And small business loans to women in sri lanka! How nice :-) I bet they never thought of that before.
Who are you giving to? What about those that actually need stuff? Where was it made? Who made it? What's it made from? Consciousness consciousness consciousness....

yep, xmas is so over the top. this year we are giving gift cards to our family, the cards represent goats that we have bought for small villages on behalf of them. We did this last year too. my children get one present each. we also always donate to the smith family - it just feel right.

yep, handmaking, op shopping and donating on the whole (with a few exceptions I have to confess.) but it is a good time to sew with love or share the love.
