I have been living in the bush since May 09. I love the weather here. When it rains its so beautiful, and the smell of the bush after the rains are divine. The black cockatoos have been numerous...eating all the banksia seeds. I did this pen and watercolour illo over a series of "me time" sessions in the bush. I also completed the 3rd artists way "Finding Water" by Julia Cameron. Yeah!

Bunny Girl

Little Messyfish is getting a baby girl cousin soon! This is for her. It matches the backing on a blanket that Grandma Messyfish has sewn. This bunny is my first commision (thanks Mum). If I had more time, I would design it a little differently, and be more careful with sewing around the curves. Huh! oh well, after all I am a beginner. I have to start somewhere! There is a tiny bell inside for little niece Messyfish's sensitive ears...

Gnome

Polymer clay gnome. He stands 7cm tall, and has been made as a Christmas present for my uncle Jim, who likes to garden. I am sure he doesnt read blogs, so I can show you this one! I was so excited at how this guy was coming together, that I stayed up late last night in order to bake him. I am inspired, and want to make more. Now this is the kind of baking I AM into!

Homemade Christmas

This year we have decided on homemade, handmade, upcycled, recycled, repurposed and simplicity! I have had alot of fun making presents, and deciding who suits what best. Little Messyfish has been in charge of making the wrapping paper (with the help of anyone else who was looking after him whilst he was scribbling happily away), and Mr Messyfish has helped by giving me lots of baby free time to prepare for my exhibition, and make all those presents! Lets hope that family members are happy with there quirky, weird and wonderful homemade stuff this year!

We are back from Grandma messyfish's. We had a great time! Little messyfish had the best time of all. He managed to smash nearly every piece of garden sculpture, and completely upturn the entire house. I did some tapestry, then had to unpick it all because I had the wrong colour then did it again, and had to unpick it AGAIN because I still had the wrong colour!. Oh the rich and idle.....

Ummm , my stuff is out of picture. I didnt really get any good shots. Oh well....This is the best of a bad lot!

Exhibition was fun, but we didnt sell anything! I am new to this area and was told it is a very conservative area, and art is not really what they are into! Hmmmmm. Its been suggested I take my stuff down to Bowral, where "the money" is. I am not sure I really care too much about selling it. I am still such a beginner. I would love to get out of the cake business though.....and selling softies could be a way to get out.

The exhibition was exiting. I was so glad to be part of it. My softies were termed "soft sculpture" by the local art administration!!! Hee hee hee..... I will post pics and start an etsy shop soon, but now its time to spend a week at grandma messyfish's and watch some TV, and read some novels. Enough crafting from me for a while, and time to take an online break! Thanks all for your support. See you in a week.....

Swaping my spring table for a christmas table. Not very Steiner, but heaps of fun for little messyfish! And reading up on Advent and seasonal celebrations from the book Festivals Family and Food
Desperately trying to finish the last piece for my exhibition opening tomorrow night...
Making price tags and business cards in front of my trusty Elna fun sew. Can you believ its still working and has made all those softies??? And 2 skirts a top and some baby pants, and all those baby shoes....what a bargain that was!

I wonder if this is enough? I have learnt so much about sewing softies. What a brilliant way to prepare myself for an online shop however, these creatures are for an exhibition next weekend. If you are in Picton NSW Australia, come along and check it out. I will be exhibiting with some REAL artists. A Photographer, Painter and Sculptor. Opening night is Friday 4th December. I am doing the catering... 7pm at the square. All welcome, would love to meet you!

I made pants with this spotty material, and I have a fair bit of of left over. The fluffy face is from a huge bag of off cuts that were gifted. The hand sewing was done with wool I bought at Vinnies.

These dogs are made from 80's style mens suit jackets that I bought at Vinnies. The bellies are off cuts I saved when I was sewing clothes a little while back.

Loved doing the hand stitching on this owl... And all with embroidery thread that was thrifted or gifted! The main body is from an ugly brown tablecloth found at Vinnies(thrift shop)...I am just loving it for animal softies. Tomorrow is the last day of Art Everyday Month. I guess it has shown me that I am creative everyday anyhow, but undertaking the challenge meant I was more mindful of how important it is to be creative everyday, and how much I love it. Helps with the gratitude...and boy do I need that sometimes!

Two cats...from thrifted material. I love the funky retro floral of this material. Apparently its called "upcycling"...what I am doing by reusing materials. I have gotten all my ideas from other bloggers and craft books, and feel entirely unoriginal, but thats not the point. I am loving it, and having fun! Hope you like these. Meeeeooowwww......

I was having too much fun on Monday, for a cactus post....It was Mr Messyfish's first day of holidays for a month....I am making lots of sewing things, and the cake sales are really low! Yeah! what a great day it was.

Here is "Jeff Prickle" in flower. He flowered for only one day. Little messyfish squealed in delight when he saw it. I screamed NO! NO! as he went to grab it, because I HAD to photograph it for you cactus monday girls. I feel bad, because he jumped out of his skin with shock! Anyway, he played with it after I took these lovely pics. Now it is no longer :-(

My first ever softie designed entirely by me. Its a bear (i think) Of course I have gotten my inspiration from all the gorgeous art and illustrations I see in books and online, but i doodled this, and Mr messyfish suggested that i try make a softie from it! All the materials used have been thrifted too!

Art Everyday month, is still going. Its day 23, and I have done something creative everyday, but am finding it difficult to get the photos and the blogging done. I would prefer to do a sketch, but that takes even more time, so I am getting a little frustrated. My goal is to make one softie a day, till the 4th of December. I should have enough for the exhibtion, and perhaps start and etsy shop!?

15 Days to go till the exhibition....eeeeekkkk. It really should be a market stall, not an exhibition, but then I am reminded by my freind who is organizing it, to not stress, and have fun (so my craft is going in!). If I make one thing every 2 days, then thats 7 things. She says thats enough...after all we are a small country town! Today I made an angel. I decided to make all my christmas presents, and take them to the exhibition. I am assuming they wont sell...so that way I get to kill two birds with one stone. (if they do sell, then I will have money to buy stuff quickly online for everyone...I looooooove etsy!!)

I said yes when asked to be part of a group exhibition. I thought that it meant getting together some of my art, but I have been advertised as the "soft toys" artist. Everything I have made I have given to Little messyfish, so now I am on a strict deadline to get some stuff made. I hate pressure. When you are as burnt as as I am, this is the last thing I need. What an idiot for saying yes.....

Cyber Bully

I made a comment on a friends comment on facebook. A little note to stay connected, and small way of letting someone know I care. Then I discovered that one of her friends has been critical and insulting of me. I dont even know this person. It has caused unnecessary pain. I asked 2 people if they thought this person was trying to be funny, but both of them said no! Its been hard for me to let this go today, but I thought of this illustration i did a while back when I was studying for my Masters of Digital Media at University. For my Art Everyday Month post today, I am using art to heal...
