The Object

My friend Louise asked me if I would like to be part of some research she is conducting as part of her MFA. I said "sure". I had no idea that this meant I would discover a bag (the pink one) sitting at my front door a few hours later. Inside that bag was some yarn, knitting needles and an object she has made out of wax. The instructions were:
"Please respond to the object using the materials and tools supplied as a starting point"
Geeze Louise!!!
My first response was "I CANT KNIT" I have tried so many times. My mum keeps showing me. I dont like it. My second response was to BLOG about it. Stay tuned. I have to return it in 6 weeks. Maybe it will go on an adventure, like Little Birdy...

I would faint if someone gave me this project. Ha... I would probably have to glue and wrap the yarn around the object in a pattern and stick the knitting needles through it. Good luck. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Lisa...I was thinking the exact same thing! I have even tried to push the needles in. I think I can, because it is wax!! And the yarn wraps well, doesnt slide about at all.

Hell's Bells!!! It's hard enough coming up with an answer to IF but this is diabolical!!!!! I used to be able to knit (many moons ago) - looks like you've got a pair of needles there to knit in the round, i.e. a tubular thing, like a sock, so it could be made to cover that wax shape maybe, somehow!!! Best of luck - keep us posted!

I bet you will come up with some creative project that will be wonderful. Just wrap your mind around it. Yarn is not only for knitting.

My daughter says 'Geez Louise' a lot and I had to giggle that your friend's name is actually Louise.

Okay, if this were me I'd be wanting to strangle my friend. lol j/k

I guess it's a great opportunity to let your creativity flow. It's good that the materials supplied are only a starting point because it leaves you open to a lot more in the way of embellishing the 'object' too. What fun! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with ~

There is a wonderful website called Knittinghelp.com that helped me teach myself to knit.
They talk to you, answer questions by email almost immediately, and have videos to watch how to make stitches!!!! Amazingly helpful. Enjoy.

Yes, I have been given the object too - it has been completed in part. My first response was also 'but I can't knit!!!'. Whilst my flatmate (who has also been given the object) sat down and taught herself to knit for the project I randomly wrapped wool around the thing. I need to get back to it to finish it!
