Earth mother

Q: How do you know when you have successfully transformed yourself from workaholic/consumer to earth mother/naturale....
A: You convert your designer pajamas into cloth pads!

I used a pattern from "Handmade Home" by Amanda Blake Soule. I first thought about doing this when I was 13. It's taken me 27 years to do this project.
An excellent book called "The Wild Genie" by Alexandra Pope recommends cloth pads too. It's a wonderful book that puts menstruation back into perspective.
It's a time to take things slowly, be creative, hang with women and cocoon. Despite society encouraging us to " plug up" pretend its not happening, go running on the beach in a bikini or put on a suit and power through the day at the office.

I've never been very good at "plugging up" and seem to cocoon instinctively.

That said, I am only just making the transition to washable cloths too, although I don't have fancy PJ's to cut up!

Lastly, were they easy to make? My sewing is pretty haphazard!

Hi kellyi,
They were super easy to make. The hardest thing was turning them right way out. But if you have ever made a softie...then you will know what that feel like!

Angelina,
I am not reading your mind, but I am a big believer in collective consciousness! There is no waterprooof interior. That is the beauty of it! No more plastic or synthetics down there!! Take it from my experience though...they dont leak! (AND they breathe)

Very interesting! I probably would never consider without a leak-proof lining (I have very heavy periods) but I do agree with the relaxation and cocooning. I'm sure we were meant to do that but our busy lives take over and don't let us. Why did women of a few years back think it was so important for all of us to have careers AND take care of our families? It gets very stressful to do both!
